What it means to be Pro-Life

A few weeks ago I attended a baby shower. The church was decorated adorably (pink, purple and zebra print) to celebrate the impending arrival of a little baby girl. Twenty women arrived with yummy treats to share. The gift table was full to overflowing and we played the traditional baby shower games. It was a fun afternoon. But, the thing that made it special to me was the fact that, for most of the women in attendance, the mom-to be was a complete stranger. My friend, Karen, had created an afternoon full of love and celebration for someone that we hardly knew. She invited and women came! They came to love on an unwed mama, down on her luck, who is set to deliver a sweet babe in a few weeks. I can't think of a better way to illustrate Christ's love. This mama to be was showered with … [Read more...]

When Worlds Collide

Many of my blogging friends (or should I say friends that blog?) are participating in 31 days of... the brain child of popular blogger, Nester Smith.  I had every intention of participating via In Be'Tween Moms, even had a cute little graphic made. But real life happened. My husband and I went on a 10 day vacation to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary! Then my daughter got married (I didn't plan those things to happen in such quick succession on purpose!)   Then I had the baby while they were on their honeymoon.  Then we went househunting for their first place.  God allowed a few doors to close so we could find the perfect little house for them. Now, we are packing and painting and planning for their move-in date of November 10th. I also squeezed in a trip to the EWomen … [Read more...]

Motherhood led me back to Jesus

Mother's Day is the best day to wrap up my series on giving up on God.  Click to read part one and part two. The bitterness and apathy that had taken up residence in my heart materialized in ugly ways.  Drugs, promiscuity, callous behavior towards those that loved me the most...the saying "hurt people hurt people" couldn't be more true. And, then at sixteen, two lines appeared on the pregnancy test.                        photo credit I was alone in a cramped bathroom stall scared beyond anything I had experienced before. There was life growing inside of me. At first I pretended not to care.  I would fix the problem.  Have an abortion, pretend that this had never happened. When I look at my Jared and think that I thought of him as a problem or a mistake, my heart beats … [Read more...]

Playing Catch Up

It has been a whirlwind two weeks.  Last week, Mike and I traveled to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO to pick up our soldier. It was a long, grueling 15 hour drive.  But, I did get to spend it with this cutie. We watched Jason graduate as a military police officer for the US Army {mama couldn't be more proud} then we headed back home to the other three kids, one grandbaby and two dogs that waited for us at home. We got back at 4am last Friday morning.  Monday, I had two follow-up interviews, was offered positions at both companies and accepted a position as an Admissions Coordinator for a skilled nursing facility about 15 minutes from our home.  {The surprising part is that I start this coming Monday!  Will y'all pray for me?} I have realized this week that I may be creating a monster future … [Read more...]

Wants versus Needs

I want to get the packages in my van mailed to my family before Christmas.  I need to spend time in the Word. I want to reflect on Advent every night with our boys.  I need to communicate His story through the way I live my life. I want to make it to the practices and sing at our Christmas Eve service at church.  I need to praise Him in the everyday moments, not just the special occasions. I want to put all the laundry {that is literally crawling to the ceiling in my bedroom} away.  I need to rest. I want to make all the hurt in the world go away.  I need to recognize my limits. I want to write eloquent and touching blog posts.  I need to write the articles I have committed to before the deadlines. I want to enjoy the holiday season.  I need to enjoy every season. I want to mail … [Read more...]
