What it means to be Pro-Life

A few weeks ago I attended a baby shower. The church was decorated adorably (pink, purple and zebra print) to celebrate the impending arrival of a little baby girl. Twenty women arrived with yummy treats to share. The gift table was full to overflowing and we played the traditional baby shower games. It was a fun afternoon. But, the thing that made it special to me was the fact that, for most of the women in attendance, the mom-to be was a complete stranger. My friend, Karen, had created an afternoon full of love and celebration for someone that we hardly knew. She invited and women came! They came to love on an unwed mama, down on her luck, who is set to deliver a sweet babe in a few weeks. I can't think of a better way to illustrate Christ's love. This mama to be was showered with … [Read more...]

I was once a lost cause

A girl of just thirteen faces torment and abuse from her peers. We excuse it that kids that age don't know any better.  They are too young to wrap their minds and manners around the concept of a peer having a baby. Then, you witness the behavior of those same kids mama's...throwing stones of accusation and ugliness at a situation they know nothing about. Nobody knows what we're for, only what we're against, when we judge the wounded... ~Casting Crowns If they knew that this girl was the victim of abuse and chose life for her baby anyway, would they still hurl cruelty her way?  Would they use the telephone lines to spread the wildfire of gossip and judgement or would they get on their knees and beg for forgiveness for their haste in jumping to conclusions? Are they aware that the venom … [Read more...]

31 Days to a Clean Heart check-in

Thank you for grace, friends. I have not posted every day {didn't I predict that would happen?} I still have much to say on this topic!  We will continue next week with more obstacles to a clean heart and finish up the month with action steps. But, this weekend, the frenetic pace of life MUST slow down and allow me some time with this sweet girl {whom I haven't seen in two weeks}     Pray that we will have safe travels {5 hours each way in the car with a teething Sweet Pea} and that we will make the most of the short visit. I will be back Monday to resume the series. You can read from the beginning here: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6/Day 7 Day 8 Day 9 Day 10 Day 12     … [Read more...]

Ringing in a new theme

2009 was the year of gratitude. 2010 the year of giving. As I prayed about our theme, the word that should become the focus of our home for 2011, one word continued to encroach all others.... Grace. Favor or kindness shown without regard to the worth or merit of the one who receives it and in spite of what that person deserves.  {Nelson's Compact Bible Dictionary} Grace for others...grace for my children...grace for my spouse... and, perhaps most importantly, grace for myself. A little less "why haven't you finished this yet" and a little more "I accomplished what God asked me today". A little less "you could have handled that so much better" and a little more "thankful for the chance to try again tomorrow" A little less "why do I keep going down that road" and a little more "thank … [Read more...]

Keeping it Real at Christmas

My chest tightens, my temples throb, my palms get sweaty. I breath faster and the desire to run away, RUN AWAY, is breathing down my neck. Am I in a dangerous situation? No. I sit on my comfy living room sofa, feeling like something heavy sits on my chest and wanting to lace up my running shoes. Life has just hit me this month.  Not in any bad, specific kind of way but the every day stressors that add up and build up and stack up and make my flesh want to call a big time out.  The house full of clutter and teenagers and infants and toddlers and presents and dogs and laundry and the husband and the to-do list and the unexpected company for Christmas.  The finals, the basketball practices, the shopping, the mom-taxi moments that take me away from the house that is full of clutter.  … [Read more...]
