God’s best laid plans

They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. ~Revelation 12:11

Shayla shared part of her story with our local newspaper for an article about the teen mom ministry I volunteer with {and that I met her through}.  I didn’t know she was going to share so much of her heart and painful past in the article and I am both proud and protective of her right now.

She has reassured me that she shared her story because she wanted to let others know what God has done in her life the last few years, specifically through YoungLives. And in her words “haters gonna hate”.  I wish my skin was that thick.

Some have attempted to make the article about them, whether it be their opinions of teen motherhood in general or their feelings about the particulars of her story being shared on the front page in our small town.

I want and I know Shayla wants the article to highlight the amazing ways that God keeps His promises.

Romans 8:28 says that God works ALL things together for good to those that love Him and are called according to His purpose.  II Corinthians 1 tells us that we go through things in life so that we can then comfort others going through the same thing with the same comfort we receive from Christ.

That is what this story is about.

God made a way for Shayla to find her forever family. A way for her to heal from the pain of her past. A way for her to give her life to the One that wrote her story just the way He wanted.  A way for her daughter to be raised in a house of faith and love and hope.

God made a way.

He always does. And, I know that He is smiling at the bravery of my girl for sharing that with her corner of the world.
