Raising Awareness (and a giveaway!)

When I was a young mama of three boys, I belonged to a supportive group of gals.  A MOMS club (Moms offering Moms Support).  While I was a member of the group, I had my own little run in with the “C” word- cancer.  Thankfully in my case, it was cervical cancer, caught early and completely treatable with surgery.

My friend, Helen, wasn’t nearly as fortunate.  Helen had waited a long time to have her son, John.  Helen and her hubby had been married for years.  She was a genuine, fun loving, credible, authentic woman.  I attended my first lingerie party at Helen’s house (one of my favorite MOMS group memories).

Helen fought a valiant battle against breast cancer.  She wore beautiful silk scarves on her head when she lost her hair.  She continued to bring John to as many activities as she could.  She gave back to the community as she always had done before cancer invaded her body, the very part of her that had nursed her child as an infant.

Helen went to be with the Lord after giving all she had to the breast cancer battle.  Her death rattled our community.  It also made us all much more aware and respectful of our bodies and overall health.

I was pleased to find a company that shares a passion for this important cause.  Energizer, the company known for it’s Keep Going Spirit, has partnered with the Susan G. Komen foundation to sponsor the Breast Cancer 3-day walk.

“We are proud to sponsor such an amazing event that truly highlights the perseverance and never-quit spirit of thousands joining together in the fight to end breast cancer,” said Betsy Laakko, Director of Marketing for Energizer. “We hope the walkers and supporters are inspired by the unstoppable energy of the Energizer Bunny® as they travel on this 60-mile journey to help find the cures.”

n honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Energizer is offering a free, special edition Keep Going® Journal to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The 80-page journal features inspirational quotes, a pink ribbon bookmark, convenient calendar and magnetic closure.   For every journal redeemed, Energizer will donate $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  You can get your journals by mailing in three proofs of purchase from select Energizer batteries.  For more information on getting a Keep Going® journal, visit www.energizer.com/komen.

Energizer is also donating $1 to every new Facebook fan, up to $10,000.  You can become a fan here.

I had my run in with the C word too. Thankfully Thyroid cancer and it was treated easily too. I have a friend who had breast cancer stage3 and beat it. They are being foster parents and she is doing well. Sorry to hear about your friend. So so sad that cancer takes so many.

I think it is great that Energizer is sponsoring something so important. While I’m not eligible for the giveaway, I lost an aunt to breast cancer. She left a daughter behind.. It is devastating and am praying for your friend’s family.
    Blessings.

  4. A great cause. My brother-in-law has brain cancer and my girlfriend’s father passed on from lung cancer 2 years ago. Both diagnoses were within a few months. My bro-in-law continues to prove the doctors wrong. Thanks for sharing this opportunity. I am so happy that you are well :)

  9. i was president of our MOMS Club, Medina, Ohio chapter in 2006-07 – some of the best years of my life! since then we’ve grown out of it sort of, my son is in school full-time and most of my friends left the club -including me- but it is what connected me to the great women in my life now!
