Sufficient Grace..

We interrupt our regularly scheduled (light hearted) Not Me Monday post to vent a tad and write what is on my heart.

Actually, my heart hurts. You know, we are all vulnerable to letting people hurt our feelings and that happened (again, in this case) with someone in my life this weekend. I was really commiserating about that fact to God in my prayer life. Why does this keep happening and why (more importantly) do I still let it hurt me so much?

What I wanted from God was a “awww, poor baby”, pity party type response. And, instead what I got from my prayer time was “when am I going to be enough for you?”. Once I got over the sting of having my hand slapped, so to speak, I fell on my knees before Him. Tears flowing I was reminded of a verse in I Peter 1:3:

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness…

You know those V-8 commercials where someone gets smacked upside the head? Well, I just let the word of God smack me upside the proverbial head today. Let’s look at some of the slaps of scripture I got today:

II Corinthians 1:3-5 which says

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of all compassion and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

Just because life is not free of pain and struggles doesn’t mean God isn’t aware of our circumstances. He is the FATHER OF COMPASSION! He knows my heart hurts, He longs to comfort me and does but the purpose of my pain is not my comfort. It is using what he shows me from these experiences to benefit others.

And, God doesn’t get tired of me learning this lesson over and over…He longs for me to do just what I did today and cry (and cry, and cry) it all out to Him.

Isaiah 40:28-31 reminds me of this:

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

So, today I am thankful for the (albeit painful)reminder that my God supplies all my needs, emotional ones included, and doesn’t allow pain in my life for naught. It is all for His glory…praising Him in the storms and watching for the rainbows is what this multi-tasking mama is doing today.

Melissa, I’m so sorry for the way others have treated you. Reminds me of someone in my life, who, for years, made me cry every time I left her house. She’s better now and so am I. The Lord always gives us what is best for us, even though we may not like it at the time or even understand it. In the end, we can usually say…praise the Lord!

    Blessings…Lynn
